Remove the Yeast of Egypt

We continue reading the book of Egypt in Morning Devotion. The Israelites ate unleavened bread for seven days to observe the Passover. It means they left Egypt by the Lord and were determined to follow God, removing the yeast of Egypt and the world. They were sanctified and started anew. We, as Christians, shall also be determined to remove the yeast of the world on our journey to follow God.

After encountering the great miracles of ten plagues and crossing the Red Sea, the Israelites complained and even missed the days in Egypt just because they didn’t have water for three days. Camping at the Rephidim, the people grumbled that God wanted them to die of thirst. Physically they had left Egypt, yet their hearts stayed in Egypt. In reality, we are just like the Israelites – we have experienced God’s grace and we still miss our past. Hence, we are torn between the truth and the reality.

Our youth pastor, Tim boldly admitted that he has always been competitive – in academic results, titles, and even favor when he is a co-worker. He needs encouragement and praise. As his wife keeps affirming him and under the Tree of Life vibe, he has decided to remove the yeast of comparison. Our media co-worker Boaz grew up in exclusive schools, owning brand products. Later, he became a TV station reporter and was affected by the worldly belief of “work hard play hard”. When he came to know the truth, he swung to another extreme: he stops cloth shopping altogether. Now he is getting rid of his fears by God which is truly removing the yeast.

Ever since I was filled and renewed by the Holy Spirit in 2000 until now, I have been through a lot of wilderness. However, I never grumble against God. C-Mo almost lost her life in the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, I held her in my arms and gave her my shoes to wear while I left the hospital barefooted. Even then I didn’t complain against God to move me to sell everything I had in Canada and bring us back to Hong Kong only to take C-Mo’s life. During that time, I didn’t question God’s righteousness and power. Thankfully, God finally saved C-Mo in my prayer.

Dear brothers and sisters, we can truly remove the yeast of the world through the Spirit of God and the covering of His precious blood. May I bless you to trust God more as you follow Him and truly experience His faithfulness.■【2025.02.23】
