Where does "611" come from

Rev. Joshua & his wife Delphine Cheung were revived by the Holy Spirit in the period 1999-2001. In May 2001, in response to God’s unequivocal calling & as commissioned by Bread of Life Christian Church at Taipei, they returned to Hong Kong after a departure of 15 years, to establish a church to serve the Lord through spiritual healing & deliverance.

A graduate from the Department of Journalism of National Chengchi University of Taiwan, Rev Joshua Cheung was a journalist before he studied & received his Master in Theology at Salve Regina University in Canada. In 1999, after being a pastor in Vancouver for 10 years, he further equipped himself at Agape Renewal Centre in U.S. & Wagner Leadership Institute & is the first Doctorate graduate of Agape Renewal Centre in Practical Ministry. .

During Rev Cheung’s training at `Bread of Life Christian Church’ at Taipei, God called upon Minister Deborah, who was a missionary and is blessed with the gift of prophecy, to become the first co-worker with Rev Cheung & wife Ms Delphine Cheung in initiating the 5-fold service team at Church 611.

The Origin of the name `611’

In February 2001, Pastor Joshua returned to Hong Kong to look for a suitable place for worship from May onwards. At the airport, whilst awaiting his flight back to Taipei, the Holy Spirit spoke to Pastor Cheung and gave him a verse from Isaiah 61:1 `The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners’as the vision of the church and revealed simultaneously the name of the newly founded church as ` 611 Bread of Life Christian Church’.

That very same evening, the Holy Spirit spoke to him the second time and told him to check the address as a confirmation that the name of the church should be 611 Bread of Life Christian Church. He then discovered that the meeting place he found was indeed 61 Fortress Street, 1st floor, North Point.
