Over 10 years ago in August 2015, Pastor Joshua commissioned Edwin and Kim to start our ministry to Indonesians. A few months later, they started our first Indonesian worship service in December.
Much has transpired since then – there was the social movement followed by a global pandemic. On a personal front, Edwin survived a mini-stroke with bouts of extremely high blood pressure. God was faithful throughout as He protected Edwin, who soldiered on in serving our Indonesian congregation.
Edwin and Kim will now transition into a new role within our Indonesian ministry. Our coworker Purple who is married to Aleph will take on the leadership of our Indonesian ministry.
I’m filled with a sense of wonder looking back over these past 10.5 years with our Indonesian pastoral zone. It all started when an Indonesian brother wrote to Ps Joshua expressing his desire for an Indonesian worship service. Ps Joshua then commissioned me to start. Slowly, a few Indonesian brothers and sisters began to attend. Gradually we grew into a fellowship.
The journey was so remarkable because I’m Malaysian and don’t speak Indonesian. I responded purely out of faith. There were many struggles and fears along the way. However, God asked me, “Do you believe that even though Indonesia is a Muslim country, they can change overnight?” These words empowered me to persevere and focus on serving Him.
I’m someone afraid of preaching. But every time I did, I felt God’s presence. He gave revelation, and I’m deeply grateful for His mercy. My relationship with God has deepened because of His presence. I’ve felt His love for these Indonesian people. His love filled me, enabling me to love each one. Till today, Kim and I have them at our home for Lunar New Year celebrations. I’ve truly experienced that God is love while shepherding them
I’m grateful to God for making me more gentle, understanding, and capable of loving myself and those around me. He’s also made me more responsible. I thank Him for giving me such a wonderful wife.
I thank my wife, Kim, for serving alongside me. She’s always been patient with me, even when I’m angry or lose my temper. Thank you Kim for your dedication, for taking care of our family and supporting me.
Thank you Ps Joshua, C-mo, Ruby mama and Basil papa for this opportunity to get to know this lovely group of people. Although I have a different role now, I feel that God truly knows me and my needs. I now have a new journey and new lessons ahead, and look forward to God continuing to lead me on the path ahead, shaping me into a life that more closely resembles the Tree of Life.
I first met Edwin and Kim in 2016. I would like to express my sincere gratitude and respect to Edwin, the leader of our Indonesia pastoral zone and my cell leader, as well as his wife, Kim.
They have always served our Indonesian community faithfully and supported our Indonesian sisters. They demonstrated a willing spirit, obedience, and love while leading brothers and sisters from a different linguistic and cultural background. They chose to shepherd us, dedicating their time and effort to do their best despite facing numerous challenges in communication.
I especially want to thank Edwin for guiding me. I didn’t understand the purpose of why I was invited to join our church’s bible school back in 2019. As I hesitated, Edwin said to me: “Afri, the purpose of attending the bible school isn’t to gain something but to build your life. Are you willing to let your life be shaped?” His encouragement and support gave me the courage to respond to God’s calling. Edwin also provided me with the opportunity to serve in our Indonesian ministry. I am even more grateful that in 2021, Edwin and Kim allowed my husband and me to join their cell group. For over four years, they have shepherded us with care, companionship, love, and acceptance.
I am also deeply grateful for Edwin’s immense trust in me, allowing me to feel freedom and acceptance in ministry. He was always committed to helping me whenever I faced difficulties in serving or was under pressure. This trust and love touched me deeply and taught me greater wisdom in relationships, enriching my journey of life. I am filled with gratitude, knowing that God’s goodness is at work in our lives.
Although there is a sense of reluctance in seeing him change roles, I believe that everything is in accordance with God’s will. Edwin, your love and sacrifices have become a part of my life. I love you and Kim and thank you for everything! May your lives continue to be abundant and become a blessing to many others! I wish you all the best, with peace, and joy!

I want to appreciate the life of Edwin and Kim. Both of you are a blessing to everyone. You are so compassionate and kind. You are an angel to all nations!
In the past people from all nations would come to join when there was a conference or Couples Camp here in 611 Bread of Life. Edwin was one who would show hospitality. The beautiful thing was that he opened his home and welcomed all people. It was amazing that everyone felt at home. We shared, laughed and prayed together. Behold how good and how pleasant it is when brothers and sisters gather. The most exciting part was Edwin’s cooking was so yummy and delicious. Edwin is a father, a brother and a friend with a great big heart ♥️ .
Personally, I am so amazed with the love and trust that Kim and Edwin have shown to me. I will never forget the good things they did. For over a decade until now they are the first couple that I ever felt like I had a family here in Hong Kong. They even let me stay in their place when they had a family trip back to Malaysia. It was unbelievable! It was God’s grace and favour!
We are not related by blood but their beautiful, simple and pure heart, makes us feel so loved and accepted. Kim is so understanding and sweet. Edwin is loving and caring. They are faithful and humble servants. We Filipinos love them and call them Ate Kim and Kuya Edwin (big sister and big brother).
Thank you for sharing your life, showing us your commitment and your dedication in pastoring under the Tree of Life. Not only to the Indonesian community, but also to the Filipino community.

In a world where unwavering commitment and selfless dedication often go unnoticed, Edwin and Kim stand as radiant beacons of hope and love in our Indonesian ministry. For over 10 years, they have poured their hearts, souls, and countless hours into uplifting lives, spreading compassion, and embodying the true spirit of servanthood. Their journey is a testament to the power of faith in action.
From the start, Edwin and Kim displayed an extraordinary passion for the people of Indonesia, immersing themselves in the culture and nurturing deep, lasting relationships. They became integral members of the community, sharing in its joys and sorrows. Their warm smiles and open hearts have fostered an environment of trust and unity, inspiring countless individuals to embrace the teachings of love and service.
One of the most profound ways they have made a difference is through their home. Edwin and Kim have generously opened their doors, creating a welcoming sanctuary for Indonesians seeking comfort, guidance, or simply a sense of belonging. Whether hosting community gatherings, providing a safe space for individuals in need, or sharing meals that celebrate their rich culture, their home has become a hub of hope and connection. Each guest leaves not just with a full stomach, but also with a heart enriched by kindness and camaraderie.
Their love for each other is beautifully intertwined with their mission. Their partnership exemplifies teamwork, support, and shared vision, serving as a powerful model for others. Together, they have demonstrated that love is not just a feeling but a commitment to uplift and care for one another and for the world around them.
Today, we honour and celebrate Edwin and Kim for their years of service, tenacity, and love. Your impact has resonated far beyond what words can express. Thank you for your dedication, for your hearts, and for your faithfulness to the Indonesian ministry. Your legacy will forever shine brightly in the lives you’ve touched.

Kim and Edwin, your kindness and hospitality impress me very much.
Seeing how you host the Indonesian members shows me your love for these people
As God leads you and the Indonesian service to a new season, I know you shall flourish and prosper because you are the royal priesthood and Trees of Life.
