On our journey following God, it’s easy to live by sight – we notice many problems in society or church, and want to solve them quickly with our own methods. However, God’s people should not be hasty and should not act in the flesh.
The prophets Deborah and Debby of our church have eagle-like eyes, seeing issues accurately and far ahead, easily pointing out people’s problems. However, when they express themselves too directly, it can damage relationships.
When Debby encounters problems, she rushes to address them, speaking sharply and putting pressure on others, making them feel uncomfortable. After being impulsive, she feels guilty and blames herself. She’s often goal-oriented, becoming pushy and making others uncomfortable or even angry. Actually, when she sees others’ weaknesses, she can rely on the Holy Spirit to express her thoughts truthfully and gently in love, showing respect to others.
Deborah is on the other end of the pendulum. Due to her background, she tends to view people and situations negatively and chooses to suppress and remain silent to avoid offending others. However, after a long time, when the last straw appears, her long-suppressed emotions explode. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit reminded Deborah that this stemmed from her childhood when her father favored her younger sister, causing her to endure constant oppression. She kept enduring until one day she couldn’t hold back and suddenly slapped her sister, shocking everyone. This was actually due to accumulated dissatisfaction in her heart. Like Moses in Exodus chapter 2, who saw Israelites being treated unfairly and exploded in anger, killing someone. Thank the Lord, now Deborah’s relationship with her sister has improved because she continuously deals with herself, surrender problems to God, and gradually breaks free from the flesh.
I was also oppressed since childhood, but after believing in the Lord, I decided to follow God, not following friends or the hurts from growing up. I began forgiving everyone who wronged me, starting with my father who abandoned me, then family and friends, and even the spiritual authorities who hurt me when I grew up serving God. I don’t suppress my troubles and dissatisfaction, but rather entrust all problems to God, not letting these hurts shape my life. Jesus also faced many persecutions, but in the end on the cross, He said to Father God: “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
Like the prophets, we all have various gifts from God. Let us learn to surrender our dissatisfaction and problems to God, break free from the flesh, align with God, so that we can be better used by Him.■【2025.04.20】
