Let Go and Let God Do New Things

As I look back, I have been learning to follow God for many years and I’ve found that one of the obstacles along the way has been our sense of familiarity and security.

How can we be constantly longing and empty ourselves? We need to know that God always does new things and has His way of leading in different circumstances. He will give us new revelations. We are not rejecting tradition as it has its merits, but sometimes it can be an obstacle on our way in following God. I have to admit that as a man, my rationality often prevents me from letting go of existing good things. I am nostalgic and tend to cling to the past, so it is a bit difficult for me to let go of tradition. But deep down I know that as a church following God, we need to embrace change in order to develop and grow. I am thankful that C-Mo has often been my help and often brings new changes. Her confrontations push me to learn further and further to let go, so that I will move to a new stage and allow God to do new things.

The same is also true to our co-workers. They are also learning more and more to let God do things. For example, Wing and Wei Min have also learned to let go of themselves on the way of following God. Wing keeps breaking the rigidities of tradition every month and year as she serves in the Kingdom Artists and worship services. She knows well that we should never regard a certain form of worship or scale of theater as the best. We need to believe that God will do new things. Now her team can fully develop their Beings and songwriting can be done by teamwork. When we let go of ourselves and allow some sense of insecurity and learn to let God do things, everything is full of vitality! Wei Min has the same experience in his media ministry. In the past, as he stuck to high standards, not only his team of co-workers were stressed out, he would also bury himself in work from morning to night. In fact, it was due to his lack of sense of security. Now, at the help of his wife, he is gradually learning to trust his team and to be a father. His life has begun to change and today he has become a witness of the Tree of Life.

On our way of following God, while I do understand that today would not have been so good without the right things done in the past, we can hardly experience new things that God is going to do if we stay unchanged and unadjusted, as the needs of people are changing with time. Chronicles reminds us of the adjustments that David had made to the temple, which was different from the tabernacle built by Moses. From the tent to the temple, from the wilderness to the kingdom, and from the return from exile to the New Testament church, the form of temple building has been constantly renewed. The environment of Hong Kong keeps changing and so are our brothers and sisters, so we have also to constantly experience renewal and change as we follow God!
