Good News at Sukkot under the Tree of Life

Thank God for being good to us! The dance show at this year’s Sukkot was marvelous and very meaningful, uplifting the lives of our co-workers and volunteers. Meanwhile, we received the good news that the Cheung Chau Whole Whole 611 had been approved by the government for its application on the change of use of its site. It’s really a great news for us! We encountered difficulties during application and as we did not rely on ourselves and prayed to move God’s hand, we got such an exciting news! When we follow God, He takes care of us and endorses us!

The dance show was so amazing that we were still talking about it after Sukkot was over. Initially I just wanted to have “ONE Tree of Life” as the theme and had never imagined that when the dance was presented, co-worker Lau Ming’s script was based on Genesis. For the Sunday service of the following week, I received from God to preach on Genesis. Such a co-incidence could only be from God!

Lau Ming said that the first appearance of Tree of Life in the Bible was in Genesis, so he just followed that flow. In the plot, right at the moment when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they fell and then had to leave the Garden of Eden. Even till today, people keep drifting around and competing for fame and fortune in vain. Finally the lost sheep were found and restored at the ceaseless effort of the Shepherd and then returned to the Garden of Eden.

When Jojo got the script, it was very challenging for her to turn an abstract script without dialogues into concrete and touching dances. She worked with choreographers and dancers together to figure out how to present it. Though they came across lots of uncertainties, their unity made them excited. The dancers have found out more about their lives during the process and she herself was also touched by God many times.

As for the part concerning the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, she came to understand more that humans did not have the ability to discern good and evil by their sinful nature and it could only be done by God! She added the little foxes that destroyed the relationship between God and men as well as the Mikania that ate away people’s lives without warning into the dance. There were also the fight between Satan and God after Scene Three. Men can never win by themselves. We need God and the angels will also come to help us.

The most touching scene for me was when everyone was crazy after fame and fortune of the world, they went for different directions and yet would not seek God. It reminded me of Abraham who went westward at God’s calling while the whole world moved eastward for Shinar. The same thing is happening today. We are heading the opposite direction from the world. We follow God and choose the Tree of Life instead of the world’s way. We love God and turn to Him to become Trees of Life!

This dance will be shown again at the coming Tree of Life Heartified Commandments Worship Conference in November! We hope to enter further into the way of Tree of Life with brothers and sisters!■【2023.10.22】
