A Teachable Life

The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning He awakens; He awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. (Isaiah 50:4, ESV)

Ever since I was filled with the Holy Spirit in 1998, this verse has stayed in my heart. I asked God for a tongue of one who is taught so that I may comfort others. Moreover, I asked God to awaken my ear every morning so that I may hear – hear the voice of God and follow Him.

Being teachable doesn’t mean that we pretend to be good – not that we obey on the surface but have our opinion deep down. Instead, we humble ourselves, listen and understand each other. If in doubt, we clarify and communicate.

Debby and Catherine have been the disciples of C-Mo and I for many years. They seldom listened to our words due to the hurts from their biological families. Debby tried to obey us the best she knew how. However she dared not ask if she had any questions, causing her work to be bent. She hoped to draw close to us. Yet when we suggested her to do something not according to her bent, she felt forced because she was afraid of authority and hence twisted our love to her. She found it hard to be taught because she insisted on her stance and experience.

Catherine used to be the “No.2” disobedient disciple of ours. She always analysed what we said to her – she decided whether it’s good or bad, then came up with her own conclusion and acted accordingly. Her self-defence was strong. When we tried to tell her our observation, she denied immediately. In her biological family, she felt that her older brother bullied her and her parents favoured him. Even in a new environment, she reacted the same. Because of the victim mentality and self-pity and low self-esteem, she tried hard to defend and protect herself, unable to listen to us.

Praise the Lord, there are no longer emotional blockages for them. They are able to receive love and begin to trust us knowing that we speak into their lives in order to help them to be free and happy. Then they are able to be taught. C-Mo and I love everyone, every co-worker, giving our best to all. God loves each of us even more. As long as we are teachable, listen to God’s word, touch His heart, submit to all His arrangements and live by the Truth; God shall surely keep elevating us!■【2023.05.07】
