Before the Song of Songs preaching series finished two weeks ago, C-Mo and I were prompted to go in to the flow of discipleship which we have been doing in the recent two weeks. It happened that the last song of Songs talked about the bride rising up to disciple. Then we know that it is God who has been leading us from the Song of Songs to discipleship. Looking back on our discipleship in the past, I am thankful for the changes in the life of my disciples.
Being a seminary headmaster before, Pastor Ho Kit found it extremely hard to receive discipleship in 611 at first. But he continues to lay himself down to listen to the teachings of C-Mo and me. He started off discipleship by gathering cell members to listen to his sharing of knowledge. Bringing changes to their lives was not on his mind. It is only until he marries Deborah and both of them receive discipleship together, and then they are grafted to the Tree of Life. Moreover, they start to hold couple cell group, hence their cell members begin to face the struggles with their wives truthfully. In this way, their lives change, some of them encounter their broken marriages restored. I am grateful for his growth under discipleship. Recently when he was sharing the Song of Songs messages, he was really flexible – willingly made adjustment upon the advice of me and C-Mo. In the past, it would be almost impossible for him – a PhD graduate and a headmaster to do that. Today he has come up from the wilderness and freely and joyfully serves God.
Joey Hui is another disciple of mine who has come up from the wilderness. Twenty ago, she was a Christian who refused to go to church, did as she pleased, and was addicted to gambling. But when C-Mo boldly enters into her life and spoke out her needs, she deeply felt that we were really interested in her life. Then she was willing to open up herself to be discipled. Her marriage was coming to a dead end but now they are a sweet couple. Her husband used to be unbelieving and refusing discipleship. But now he is a firm believer and actively involved in discipleship. Moreover, her elder brother has been ordained as a pastor and today her younger brother and both of her sons are actively participating in serving at God’s temple. More importantly she was merely surviving at the marketplace in the past but today she has become a Levite and is nurtured and discipled under the Tree of Life. She is able to enjoy life finally. All of these are the fruits of discipleship.
C-Mo and I have never ceased discipleship from the day we started pastoring a church in Vancouver. Over there we attended to different ministries most of the time, focusing on statistics and data. It was only after we came back to Hong Kong to establish 611 when God has made us realise that He has entrusted every individual, instead of ministry, to church. Every life needs to be discipled and C-Mo and I have taken it into action. We have put time and effort on the discipleship of MG leaders, co-workers as well as brothers and sisters. Whether in open cells or on the adjustments of individual lives personally, I know that each life has been entrusted by God to me and C-Mo.
During the two years under the pandemic, we have spent more time in church on discipleship. I have seen the rapid growth in many lives and breakthroughs in relationships. The whole congregation have got to know more about the flow of the Holy Spirit and our lives are stretching deeper and wider. Dear brothers and sisters, let’s disciple together with God’s Word and the power of the Spirit so that we may experience the joy and satisfaction brought by discipleship. [2022.11.06]
