Follow God and Prevail over Bullies

In the MG cell group at the end of last month, C-Mo was prompted to give me a new name, “Prevail over Bullies”. In the past I was like having a mark on my forehead: “Easily Bullied”, but now C-Mo is turning it into “Prevail over Bullies”. At the Monthly Prayer Meeting last Thursday, I shared my life story on how I was once prone to bullies but now I could prevail over bullies and it was met with heated responses. I hope that it will also start more reflections on life!

I was born in a poor family, surrounded by gangsters and I got used to tolerating their bullies. After I turned to Christ, I knew that I had God who backed me up. So I could often let go when facing bullies. I believed that God reigned and that had gradually enabled me to live a life that can prevail over bullies.

Indeed prevailing over bullies is a choice to follow God – when I choose it as a husband, my relationship with C-Mo is warm instead of being distant or cold. The “bully” from C-Mo every day is actually her love and help to me, as well as fun between two of us. I never mind how she treats me and hence our relationship is getting better and better. As a senior pastor, I choose to let go of all the misunderstandings of others and God’s peace is in our midst. If I had chosen otherwise and calculated and argued on everything, our church would have been filled with disputes and even gone to division. Our disciples would also have become people who cannot prevail over bullies and our church would have been filled with quarrels and strife.

Back in 2018 when Typhoon Mangkhut hit Hong Kong, we originally scheduled a beach baptism and prayed for it. We posted the prayer content on the Internet and unexpectedly it attracted misunderstandings of the media. They thought we would go ahead with the baptism, neglecting safety and going beyond reasoning. At that time we chose to “prevail over bullies”. We went on to focus on God and neither responded nor argued. As a result, we held eight musicals cum baptisms indoor in the storm and brought more than 300 people to Christ, and over 800 people were baptized. God reigns in our midst and when we walk in the Truth and do lawful and reasonable deeds without arguing with people, God is with us.

Dear brothers and sisters, I encourage everyone to follow God and bless you to “Prevail over Bullies” and to deny yourself for God. When we lead such a life, which is pleasing to God, God will surely bless us and be with us. He will also shower His peace in our midst.■【2022.07.17】
