Pray for the Philippines (I)

As the whole earth is still facing the severe threat of the pandemic, may we implore our brothers and sisters to stand with our branch churches around the globe in prayer as they go through the greatest challenge of century. Darkness may cover the whole land, but our God reigns forever and He shall deliver His people.

Today, we want to hear from Maricar in Manila about how the pandemic is crippling the whole nation.

It has been 17 months since our first lockdown was issued by our government having recognized the entry and sudden debilitating spread of the virus in the country.

The Philippines has so far recorded 1.68M positive cases, 29,220 deaths since the start of the pandemic, one of the highest death tolls in southeast Asia. The pandemic has caused the economy to plunge resulting in the closing of companies, 4.5M people left without a job, over-inflation, and worsening of our poverty index.

Today, we are faced with yet another challenge with the emergence of the new and more aggressive delta variant being detected all over the Philippines spreading across 17 regions. The country is once again put in a critical situation. On Sunday, the Philippines recorded a sharp rise in daily Covid fatalities, with 287 deaths, the highest daily increase in four months. A further 9671 new infections were also confirmed.

Just like the other times, we are once again put into strict lockdown for the 3rd time as Metro Manila where our church is located reached yet another spike in Covid cases, in a desperate attempt to slow down the fast spreading of the Delta variant. People are more fearful and more desperate especially with the scarcity of vaccines and health facilities and many other resources despite the government’s best effort to provide for the needs of many. (To be cont’d)
