We must “Listen” and　“Amen” to God

With the Day of Atonement approaching, how shall we prepare? Ps Joshua shares:

“Why did God choose Moses? What was good about Moses? Or today, what is good about you and me? Why has God chosen us? Is it because of what we have done in the past? Numbers 12:3 “ Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.” When Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, God replied that Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.

To be humble means to humble yourself in your thoughts. The root word of humble is “see”, and then on top of that, to listen attentively. Moses was humble and willing to listen, more than anyone else on the face of the earth. God chose Moses for he listened attentively: He chose a man who was the most humble, and who was most willing to humble himself and listen to God’s words.

When God called Moses and revealed Himself in the burning bush, Moses was in the midst of struggles. After meeting God, Moses did not struggle for himself anymore, but instead struggled for God and for the people. He listened to whatever God said; likewise, we must have ears that hear. Miriam and Aaron could not hear God, and so they spoke against Moses. Moses’ wife being a Gentile did not get in the way of God speaking to him – God regarded Moses’ willingness to listen much more highly than that.

Also, Numbers 12:7 “But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house.” Apart from being humble, Moses was also faithful in all of God’s house. Faithful means Amen, the pillar. Moses was the pillar of the whole house, and he supported whatever God wanted to do.

How can we be used by God? As priests and Levites, we shall “listen” and “Amen.” As long as we can “listen” and “Amen” to God – that is, support God – then God will vindicate us; it doesn’t matter what others have spoken against us. How well do we listen to God? And with regards to the words spoken by God, by Pastor, by Cmo, and by the Curator staff – how well can we “Amen?” The Israelites could neither listen nor Amen, rather they kept on grumbling. Are we like Miriam, Aaron and the Israelites – speaking negative words? Let us not be like the Israelites sinning against God with their thoughts, words and requests. We must imitate Moses; we must listen and Amen to God’s words.•[2020.10.18]
