In a blink of an eye, it has been 3 years since Angela and her husband Michel responded to our calling and came to Hong Kong to be equipped. Now carrying the seed of the Tree of Life, they headed back to Belgium, paving the way for its planting everywhere in Europe. Our disciple Jessica is rather moved by Angela’s life:
When Angela was young, she was under somebody else’s roof, destitute and without a safe abode. Her father had to start up a restaurant business before being able to reunite Angela and her siblings – it was a hard time to wait. After they reunited, their livelihood was difficult – but she treasured every moment with her family, without a feeling of bitterness. Later, as Angela cared for her older brother Barnabas, she visited from Belgium afar to Hong Kong – and so also forged a bond with 611.
Angela values relationships above all, and her true temperament is not suppressed. Whenever she could meet with Pastor and C-Mo, she would embrace them, enjoying her identity as a true daughter. She didn’t feel uncomfortable having not finished anything, nor did she rush off to do other things. She is really a true daughter, having no regard for “doing”.
Despite not having regard for “doing,” she is still great in ministry. She is sincere, brave in confrontation, and full of warmth. One time, she got to know a chef because she appreciated his self-made amazing cooking utensils. Later, the chef even personally sent his self-made utensils to her. There was also a time that she befriended some flight attendants on a flight, and received an unanticipated upgrade to first class. She makes friends easily and has the ability to naturally bond with people. When she encounters obstacles, there have always been people showing up to help unexpectedly, so that she can be blessed to accomplish her missions effortlessly.
During Angela’s days in 611, she didn’t have any fixed position in ministry, but she had built good relationships with co-workers from many different departments. Even the janitors from Happy Team gave her a warm farewell. Recently, we are always talking about “being” and “doing”. As we delve into “being,” Angela is a great example to us, having not used “doing” in ministry, but instead having built good relationships with others. I am a person who lacks such ease and freedom as Angela has; I always push myself to grow in “doing”. Though she said she was not good at any ministries, the revelation of her being has become our nutrition.
When we no longer define ourselves by our “doing”, we can live out our “being” with ease and freedom, forging true and harmonious relationships with others. Starting off from our very “being”, if we can synchr onize ourselves with God amidst the uniqueness and beauty of His creations, the fragrance of the Tree of Life would naturally exude.•[2020.09.13]
My Child, you are no more an orphan! The Story of Angela|Beloved Son / Pastor Barnabas Poon
The Hong Kong in the 60’s — He and she were striving for survival there and then. From Hong Kong to Holland and even Belgium, yet there was nowhere to rest his soul. Where could she call home? Orphanage, monastery or other people’s roof? The joint testimony of Pastor Barnabas and his sister Angela told of their old hard lives. However, it is obvious that a loving hand has been in their whole lives, protecting them and leading them back to warm homes.
