The Power of Picture Books

Simple pictures always move people’s hearts and make a powerful voice! Tin Yan has been following her desire of drawing for years. Not an easy journey though, she presses on under lots of encouragements. Combining the concept of a picture book, a beautiful thing has been accomplished:

I first studied Landscape Design, but as I always desire to create freely, I quitted my job and then studied illustration. Two years ago, I returned to Hong Kong and started drawing.

When C-Mo was prompted to work on picture books, I was very grateful to be invited as one of the members of the creative publication team. At the time of Covid-19 starting to spread, Pastors Debby and Grace invited me to draw an anti-epidemic handbook. Finding it very meaningful, I promised without hesitation. However, I did not have a clue about what to draw in the very beginning. Many other anti-epidemic handbooks were published in the meantime, I thought: what the point will be if my output is the same as others? So thankful that we could discuss in the chat group, making us clearer about the theme: “I’m Not Afraid!” which is the main difference between us and the world. While the community was dreading, snatching masks and toilet rolls, we trust in God’s protection.

When the handbook “I’m Not Afraid!” was posted online, the response was excellent. The post was shared by many people. Schools and organizations would also like to use our handbook. Up to now, including my fb and ig, this handbook has a widespread reaching to more than 89000 people, breaking my posting history whatsoever. Many people who showed like or shared the post are from many different countries. This picture book is originally bilingual (Chinese and English), but now has been speedily translated to Japanese, Spanish, German, Tagalog and Sign language. It is totally beyond my expectation.

Our team was of one heart: giving comments and information, working out the storyline, proofreading and giving many encouragements. God has used my trivial offering as blessings to much more people than my expectation. Looking forward to God’s work on more amazing things through our stories and drawing.

A little picture book does something great! Having planted the seedlings for years, I am glad for my children for bearing fruits with 611 DNA. In this special and difficult time, young people do not choose the path of the world, but speak boldly to the environment from their heart.【2020.03.08】
