Thank God that last Sunday (November 24) was the most peaceful Sunday in recent months as the District Council Election concluded smoothly in peace.
The number of voters was near 3 million and voter turnover rate reached a historical high of 71.2%, as compared to 47% in the last election. It shows that Hong Kong citizens were highly concerned about this election and they made their stance towards the “Extradition Bill” known through their voting. The pro-democracy camp captured 389 seats out of 452 seats whereas the pro-establishment camp obtained only 59. In terms of the number of seats, the proestablishment camp suffered a great loss but the ratio of the pandemocrats’ share of votes to that of the pro-establishment camp’s remains at approximately 6:4.
As for the election result, everyone should respect it. We should pray for the elected members and proclaim that they will have good communication with the government and the both parties will rebuild Hong Kong hand-in-hand. After the election, Hong Kong is entering a new stage. We hope that the government will hear the voice of its people so that their trust on the government will be rebuilt. Hong Kong should get rid of all violence as the ends do not justify the means.
What we desire is for Hong Kong to enjoy true peace, which is the greatest blessing in these circumstances. To have this blessing, we need true light, the Truth and life. It is important to consider which means we choose and violence is definitely not an option. Only love and forgiveness can bring true peace and joy!
Dear brothers and sisters, we believe that the Truth will triumph at last. We insist that light will have victory over darkness. All the various leaderships as described in Daniel came to an end without exception, no matter how long they were in rule. Only God’s kingdom will stand forever and is what we ultimately commit to and pursue. Planting trees of life and building up lives with true light and the Truth to bring peace to Hong Kong is what God has entrusted to us. We will continue to pray and work towards this direction.•[2019.12.01]
