Pray for Hong Kong with one heart

The protests in Hong Kong escalated dramatically last week. The police and protestors broke out in fierce clashes, throwing petrol bombs and tear gas at each other. Inside and outside of both Chinese University and Polytechnic University were like war zones. Even though C-Mo and I were not in Hong Kong at the time, we were greatly shocked hearing the news. Unceasingly, we cried out to God to resolve the crisis and deliver the people of Hong Kong from the deadlock.

Facing such a difficult situation, Christian church leaders must call for all churches and believers in Hong Kong to pray for the city with one heart and one mind. Besides mobilizing church members to participate in the “Rekindling the Fire of Love 247” prayer meeting every Wednesday, we have started the daily prayer chain to pray for Hong Kong continuously for 12 hours – that anger and strife shall be quenched, broken relationships restored, love and trust rebuilt. Dear brothers and sisters, we must believe that God still reigns and He listens to every of our cry!

From the social movement of the past few months, I see a rift between the two generations. The younger generation cannot see what the elder ones see, and vice versa. It calls for much communication between them. We need to listen to the heart of our young people with more love, so as to boost mutual understanding and restore relationship.

Last week, due to class suspensions in tertiary institutions, some of our college students attended morning devotion and bible school, praying for Hong Kong and engaging in youth evangelism. I am really grateful for them. Thank God that these young people love God’s Word, embrace a life of prayer and willingly make a Godly voice known to the city. May God raise up more youngsters to bless Hong Kong!

“As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. For He says, ‘In the time of My favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.’ I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:1-2)

Our God of Hope, we thank You! You are refining Hong Kong people as gold, leading us to reflect on life more deeply so that we may birth heavenly insight. I believe that You accept our prayers, turning people to Christ and enabling Hong Kong to overcome all kinds of crises and to stand firm so that she will be a role model to the nations.•[2019.11.24]
