Recently, during morning devotion we read on Deuteronomy where blessings and curses are mentioned. It is God’s heart to bless and not to curse man. The Bible tells us that as we observe God’s laws, all kinds of blessings come on us and overtake us. Yet curses shall come on us the same way if we do the opposite.
God reminds us to choose life and not to leave things for chances. As God’s people, we are also to enter this covenant of life and peace today. None of the earthly political powers or systems is perfect – there are bound to be pros and cons. True peace and hope come only from God.
Last week, more than two hundred church staff observed Atonement Day with confession in advance. Thank God that as priests and Levites of today, we took the lead and had a deep reflection on life and confessed sins.
On the third evening, “Cell Leader Monthly Prayer meeting” was combined with “247 prayer meeting”, attended by more than 1,700 brothers and sisters. Led by the MG leaders, the whole congregation confessed our sins. Also we confessed sins and pleaded for peace for Hong Kong. Moreover, we blessed the relationship between government and protesters – with less enmity, mutual listening, understanding and reconciliation. During the meeting, God’s love and healing came mightily upon us, moving everyone deeply. Afterwards, we were delighted to hear from the news that the Chief Executive Ms Carrie Lam was willing to pay district visits. Sincerely we anticipate more communication which brings breakthrough to the relationship.
It is evident that the Church plays a crucial role as we believe God is still using Hong Kong churches to bless this city. “The secret things belong to the Lord our God…” Regarding the unknown future, we trust in God and entrust it to Him because it belongs to Him. “…but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever.” The revealed things mean God’s laws and commandments. They are very near us, in our mouth and in our heart, so that we may obey them and be blessed. (Ref: Deuteronomy 29 & 30)
Repeatedly, God spoke to the Israelites while Moses earnestly called heaven and earth as witnesses against them and set before them life and death, blessings and curses, “therefore choose life, so that you and your descendants may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19) “…so that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days.” (Deuteronomy 30:20)
Dear brothers and sisters, let us trust in the covenant God made with us and stand firm in the Truth. We know that the numerical value of the Hebrew word “TORAH” which means both “Law” and “Tree of Life” is 611. This is the God-given destiny to our church, we must cling to it. Our life is in God’s hand and He alone is the source of peace. We should choose life, so should Hong Kong. Let us obey His Word and trust in Him wholeheartedly as He is our life. The length of days of Hong Kong is in God.• [2019.09.15]
