Praise the Lord! Our first English musical “Return in Victory” in Purim concluded in thanksgiving and applause, bringing 154 new believers to Christ. The mighty hand of God is inevitable as He turned this “Musical” into “Miracle”, a display of His Glory. It was not merely a new endeavor but its impact is far greater than we could ever imagine!
From North Point Pier era, we have begun restoring the Biblical festivals, this Esther musical was our fourteenth production. From the first hasty one to the highly professional performance (by all non-professionals) this year, we are moved not only by every creative production, but most of all, knowing that every on and off-stage participant has experienced personal life transformation and breakthroughs.
Hearing many heartfelt thanksgivings during the get-together celebration, we stood in awe of God’s wonderful deeds. Brother Gary, King Xerxes in the musical, had neither sung in public nor even been to Karaoke before. When his friends learned of his musical involvement, they came specially to support him. Hardly expected him taking up an important role in such a professional production, joined by his whole family of young and old, his friends and relatives were flabbergasted.
After hearing many more side stories on and off-stage, I give great thanks to God for such a wonderful team in our church because He is the Abba Father who forever backs us up. Normally it takes one year to present a good musical, but our team outdid that by finishing the whole production in just over two months. Sister Sarah, who was our playwright and songwriter, recalled that she was so overwhelmingly inspired that she had written more than 30 songs which should have taken two hours to perform but due to the time, only twenty songs were presented.
This time, most props and backdrops were refreshing, such as the giant chronicle (book) and the wooden white horse that carried Mordecai were swift yet professional works. Brother Isaac, the husband of Sarah, was in charge of props whose expertise is the maintenance and production of different venues in theme parks. The extensive devotion and involvement of his family in this musical sent out the message “Nothing is too hard for God” as conveyed in “Return in Victory” loud and clear. Praise the Lord! One distinguishing feature of the acting crew is the constant succession and exchange that gives everyone a chance to perform on stage. No part is fixed, the Queen Esther in our last play can be a maidservant or a Jew this time while the previous king can be an official today. Regardless of the role given, everyone willingly put in his all so as to glorify the name of God and preach His words.
Brothers and sisters, how the Father God used each member of our musicals in the past, likewise He will also use each one of us today. As we are willing to lay down ourselves and follow Christ’s footsteps of humility, we shall definitely become vessels of God’s miracles and experience the wonders of life.• [2018.03.11]
