Pray for the Church in Canada

The Church is facing spiritual warfare in Canada. Though 67% of Canadians identify themselves as Christians, polls indicate that only between 11% to 25% of Canadians are part of a church community.

The country’s primary Protestant denomination has fallen into apostasy as it abandoned its approach to evangelism and Biblical views on moral issues. In an effort to support inclusion, it has even rejected that Jesus is the only way and considers other faiths as paths to God. Today many of these once filled church buildings lie empty, several of which have since been converted into mosques, pubs and entertainment establishments.

Chinese community churches which once grew steadily along with the immigration waves of the late 1980s and 1990s are now faced with declining membership numbers as their second generation leave the church while faced with an aging congregation.

On the other hand, the harvest is ready and fields are ripe. With over 250,000 immigrants arriving in Canada each year, it is a strategic country to evangelize to the nations, especially to people who are originally from places which are closed to the gospel. Similarly, Canada has the fourth highest number of international students in the world at over 435,000 after the US, UK and China. There are more than 300 colleges and universities with over 1.1 million tertiary students. As such, campus ministry groups have tremendous potential to plant seeds in these international students and help take the gospel back to their home countries while building and discipling student leaders who will be the future of the country.

We pray that the Church be filled with the Holy Spirit and rise up to be the light house. As a country, we will repent of our wicked ways of abandoning God and His word. May God have mercy over Canada and its people so that revival can take place once again.

1 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Matthew 9:37-38 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
